CAT Test

Common Admission Test (CAT) is an all-India test conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), which is considered to be the most prestigious B-schools of India. It is an entrance exam for students who want to pursue Post Graduate level Management Degree from world renowned IIMs. Performance in Common Admission Test or CAT, followed by Group Discussions and Personal Interviews, serves as the basis for admission. Apart from the IIMs, a candidate can seek admission in many other business schools with the CAT score.

Exam Details will be published in the Employment Newspaper in the month of August. Candidates can get the application form from the State Bank of India on payment. Applications should be submitted on or before 2nd week of October.


Graduation from a recognized university
Candidates those who are studying final year of their undergraduate degree from a recognized institution are also eligible. Candidate must produce a certificate from the Principal / Head of the Department/ Registrar/ Director of the University / Institution certifying that he/she is currently studying final year and awaiting the final results.

Exam Details

CAT is conducted at the end of November or at the beginning of December every year. CAT exam consists of the following papers.

Reading Comprehension
This written test includes passage and poems.

Quantitative Aptitude
This written test includes aptitude questions in algebra, geometry, logarithm, interest calculations and arithmetic problems etc.

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
This written test includes reasoning ability questions like critical reasoning, statements and conclusions, puzzles, family tree problems, symbol based problems, coding and decoding, charts and venn diagrams etc.

Verbal Ability
This written test includes verbal and non-verbal questions like antonyms, analogies, jumbled paragraphs, sentence correction etc.

Available Marks

More than one answer for a question and a wrong answer fetch negative marks.

Personal Interview

Candidates are shortlisted as per the marks obtained by them in the above written test. Shortlisted candidates shall be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview in order to seek admission for the postgraduate management programs offered by IIMs and other business schools.
